"The Circus"
I tossed and turned all the night long 'cause I was excited knowing that
the circus was coming to town the very next day, and we had talked about
going.
Not the really great big circus, like the big cities have. Just the little
circus comes here 'cause this is a little bitty town. Well, it did not turn
out to be a happy Sunday for me after all 'cause nobody showed up to take
me to the circus, like they said they would, and now it would be gone soon
because it could only stay here one day. I have the ticket with a picture
of a big tiger on it and it says "admit one free" at the top, in great big
red letters. On the yellow part it says it is "today only" at 6pm, and it
is now 7:30pm, so it is almost over now. It is not a very pretty sight to
look in the mirror and see someone with a long sad face, red eyes and almost
some tears. I have thought about the circus everyday and night for a whole
long week and now nobody showed up to go with me.
As I sit here now, all by myself, feeling rather sad, I wonder if my 4 year
old granddaughter, Chelsey, feels as hurt as I do about not getting to go
to the circus with her Grandpa, because they forgot to bring her to my house.

(I have written this story in a childlike fashion to try and express
to mothers and fathers just how much grandparents can be deeply hurt when
they miss those special times with their grandchildren.)
