Many people wonder why they get so much porn and spam in their e-mails and often ask how to stop it. Well here are a couple of suggestions:

First understand that if you enter chatrooms on AOL you are going to get Spam  in your mail box;  Now you can stop this from happening.

The first suggestion ( especially for parents setting up e-mail for their children) is to set your mail controls  (keyword Mail Controls) to only allow  the people that you have listed  to be able to send you e-mail.  Now while this will keep unwanted e-mail from filling up your mail box you will have to keep your mail controls updated  whenever you wish to sign up for anything that requires you to use your e-mail address. ( This may block 3rd party mailing such as online newsletters, ezines, etc....)

The second suggestion is to  block all e-mail when you are going into a chatroom and then remove the blocks  about a half hour after you leave chat.  Now  the drawback to this method is that if you are on a mailing list such as a joke list ...e-zine...or newsletter  you may be removed from the mail list because the sender is going to receive a message that you are not receiving e-mail and they will remove your name from the list.  The proper term is Bouncing, you will be bounced from the list.

The third suggestion is to use two screen names  one that you go into chatrooms with and one that you receive your e-mail through. The name that you use for going into chatrooms you should block all e-mail.    This is usually the best method , but you have to remember to never go into a chatroom with your e-mail only name.(use keyword Names)

The fourth suggestion is to  pick up a Free e-mail account from one of the free services then you can block  your AOL e-mail and receive the e-mail you want through your seperate e-mail account. below you will find a couple of links to help you find the Free E-mail providers.

DELETING EMAIL Ok so you don't want to set up blocks that limit your AOL service that you pay for, well that is OK.  Here is how to delete the spam from your mail box.

 Deleting individual email :  right click on the email you wish to delete and select delete

Deleting several emails in a block:   You can delete several emails that are grouped together by clicking on an email at the top of the block and hold the shift key and click on the bottom email in the block and then hit delete.  ALL THE EMAIL IN THE BLOCK WILL BE DELETED AT ONCE.

Deleting several emails that are not in a block: hold down the ctrl key and with the mouse select each email that you wish to delete( remember to continue to hold the ctrl key until you have finished selecting all the email you wish to delete) then hit delete. ALL THE EMAIL YOU HAD SELECTED WILL BE DELETED AT ONCE.
